Rabbit Room

Rabbit Room is our nursery school room for children aged 3 and 4.

Sainsbury’s Centre Visitors

We have been having a marvellous time with Lawrence and Rach, the children have been using the plastic bottles to come up with some wonderful ideas.

Christmas Party

We had a wonderful time at our Christmas Party this week! We started with a game of pass-the-parcel, then had lots of dancing (no photos, everybody was too blurry from moving around so much!) and party food before watching ‘The Snowman’, which is our focus story for this half-term! Needless to say, we had some very tired children and adults at the end of the day…

Stay and play

Stay and play sessions are for families to join their children to play. These sessions happen once every half term.

Our Christmas 2019 themed Stay & Play session also involved a magical visit to see Father Christmas!

We had a fantastic turn out for Stay & Play last half-term, thank you so much to those of you who came: your children loved it! Our next session is on 16th December.

Bird Rescue

On Friday we found a baby bird in the garden that seemed to have lost its nest. Luckily we had been making nests at Forest School the day before so we were able to make a place for the bird to rest. Later in the day we found another baby bird but they were both soon reunited with their mother.

Welcoming new friends

We have been very busy welcoming all of the new children into Rabbit Room and spending time making sure that they are settled and happy, ready for a busy year of fun and learning! The painting easel has been a very busy area of the classroom. Some of the children decided to wash the bikes and cars outside using the construction bricks…hopefully they don’t try anything similar at home!

Apple Crumble

This week the children in Rabbit room harvested the apples from our garden and made apple crumble with Jayne and Zoe. We even shared the crumble with our grownups.

At the Allotment

Sheralee, Rose and Katie and a group of parent volunteers took a key group of children to the Marlpit community allotment. They learned to keep safe while walking along the path, and how to keep safe in the allotment – avoiding stinging nettles and carefully feeding a horse.

We planted and watered seeds and learned what was needed to make them grow. Katie showed the children how to make music by blowing across a blade of grass. We also ate a healthy picnic snack before walking back to the nursery.

Happy Mothering Sunday!

The children in Rabbit room made Mothers’ Day Cards. Some children used a variety of resources to make transient art. They photographed their pictures and these were printed and stuck on their cards.
Other children used spring flowers from the garden to make a picture for their cards.

We also learnt a song:

Thank you Mummy, Thank you Mummy,
For everything you do, for everything you do,
You are very special, you are very special,
I love you, I love you.

Celebrating Halloween

Rabbit children learned about and joined in with festival traditions. They dressed up as vampires, witches, Spiderman and a princess. The children helped Kez to carve a face in a pumpkin, we put a candle in it and sang our Halloween song;

I’m a little Jack O’Lantern, I’ll scare you,
I’ll scare you, I’ll scare you,
I’m a little Jack O’Lantern, I’ll scare you,
Boo! Boo! Boo!

We shared books about Halloween and particularly enjoyed ‘Room on the Broom’.

Science Day

For science day, the children built an erupting volcano!
We built a mountain of sand, made a crater in the top and put some bicarbonate of soda and food colouring.

Then, the children poured vinegar on top and watched the volcano erupt as “lava” bubbled up and flowed down the sides!

Cooking Pizza

In Squirrel room we have been learning about process cooking. The children followed number instructions to make their own pizza. This supported their mathematical development.

Our favourite part was eating the finished cooked products… Delicious!
